Ann: «Emotions form the basis of being a human - they are what makes us different from animals. Emotional development at early life stages of an individual is essential for harmonious growth. Young children deal with many of the same emotions adults do but do not always have the words for them. As teachers and parents we can help them understand and identify their emotions by talking about them. The earlier children begin to express and share their feelings openly, the more prepared they will be for different situations. In English class we always take the time to talk about how we feel today.

At the start of the class we review different emotions that we know and then I throw a ball to each child, in no particular order, asking them how they are. Everyone is very eager to share how they feel. Sometimes one of the children may get hesitant of his/her emotion and others try to help him identify his feelings in a very touching and friendly way. It is worth noting, that the three most popular answers among are “happy”, “angry” (just because they like to make the face) and “in love” (sometimes even with a particular classmate)».
